Last night, a routine patrol by the Rio Vista Police Department took a turn when officers from Team 4 spotted a vehicle with a registration violation cruising through the Core area, just shy of the 8 PM hour. The cops' attention to detail led to pulling over a 40-year-old man from Vacaville, whose past included a stint for robbery; a man whose freedom was still shackled by the conditions of his parole.
What seemed a simple traffic stop unearthed a trove of illicit items: burglary tools including shaved keys, often used to break into properties, and narcotics paraphernalia—in this case, glass pipes tainted with the residue of methamphetamine. Then came the discovery of a flare gun, no mere signaling device in this instance, but a gun capable of firing shells and therefore classified as a firearm, which parolees like him are forbidden to possess. According to a post on the Rio Vista Police Department's Facebook page, the discovery prompted the officers to arrest the man on multiple charges.
The Rio Vista PD's subsequent Facebook announcement detailed the charges, which included the possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon—all violations of his parole conditions. The weight of his past, now compounded by these fresh transgressions, meant his next stop was the County Jail, where he would await the judgment of the justice system once more.
Thanks to a collaborative effort by local law enforcement, the Solano Sheriff’s patrol deputy facilitated the suspect's transition to incarceration, and to ensure the man's constrained liberty remained just that, the California Dept. of Corrections & Rehabilitation slapped a parole hold on him to preclude any immediate release.
