A Vallejo man with a felony record was apprehended after being found with a stolen, modified weapon, authorities said. The incident began when a Vallejo Police Department assistant discovered a gray Hyundai Sonata abandoned and obstructing traffic around Marin St. and Nebraska St. on January 16. According to a statement obtained by the Vallejo PD's official social media account, the suspect was seated in the vehicle but fled the scene when approached.
The police assistant quickly informed officers about the fleeing male's appearance and last seen location. While she did not give chase, she managed to notably spot a firearm lying on the driver-side floorboard of the vehicle. Responding officers were to find the suspect near Mississippi St. and Sonoma Blvd eventually. The man then spontaneously admitted to driving the abandoned vehicle but insisted that the firearm was not in his possession.
Upon further examination, officers determined that the firearm, which was equipped with a "Glock Switch" altering it to fire fully automatic, was indeed stolen. "The male was subsequently arrested and transported to the county jail," the Vallejo PD detailed. The modified weapon’s discovery adds gravity to the situation as such illegal alterations are often linked to more serious criminal activity.
Law enforcement conducted a background check on the individual and confirmed his status as a convicted felon, a classification that legally bars him from owning or possessing firearms. With the records check complete, they verified his ineligibility to hold, let alone carry a gun merely. Despite initially contesting the ownership of the weapon, the suspect’s past and the physical evidence aligned to ensure his arrest adequately. The man's vehicle was also towed away from the scene, as noted in the official Vallejo PD Facebook post.
