On January 12, Vallejo saw swift action taken by its police force as officers detained two armed individuals amidst a string of vehicle burglaries. The Vallejo Police Department received an urgent call related to a dubious looking silver Lexus associated with multiple thefts happening in South Vallejo, reports Vallejo PD's Facebook page.
Working quickly to locate the culprits, police moved in on the suspects, who were parked strategically at the crossroads of Magazine Street and Sonoma Boulevard. Attempting to flee from the scene hastily, the driver – donning a ski mask – was pursued by officers but couldn't outpace justice, even as he dropped a firearm from his waistband. According to the Facebook post by the Vallejo Police, the arresting officer had to physically struggle to secure the arrest of the towering suspect, measuring 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighing close to 270 pounds.
Simultaneously, another battle ensued within the vehicle as the passenger, also armed, was subdued by law enforcement. It took the strength of four officers to handcuff the resisting suspect successfully. Their loaded, unregistered firearms were seized, and a search of the Lexus yielded a variety of stolen items, such as a designer purse, a suitcase, an iPad, and gym equipment, which were later entered into evidence or returned to their rightful owners. Following the incident, the suspects were medically cleared before their incarceration, and two officers were also treated for injuries at a local hospital, as stated by the Vallejo Police Department.
The Vallejo PD Facebook page expressed gratitude towards the public and the officers, emphasizing the danger posed by these criminals and the bravery exhibited by those dedicated to maintaining safety in the community.
