Vallejo Police nabbed two suspected home burglars after a sharp-eyed citizen flagged down officers following a reported break-in on Rainwater Drive. The duo, whose heist was caught on the victim's surveillance system, had their faces masked as they plundered the residence on January 10.
According to the Vallejo Police Department, the property owner tipped off the authorities after observing a suspicious grey Honda Accord fleeing the scene. Officers were later guided by a local resident, who noticed that the suspects had made a getaway in a vehicle matching the description.
The break in the case came when California Highway Patrol's Auto Theft Task Force pulled over a car in Fairfield that was a dead ringer for the getaway vehicle. Inside, officers spotted a cache of items that were allegedly pilfered from the house, along with an unregistered loaded firearm—a felony offense for one of the suspects with a criminal record.
Per the Vallejo Police Department, the suspects feigned ignorance about the nearly $20,000 worth of swag and the firearm found in their possession. But their denials didn't cut the mustard when confronted with serialized evidence linking back to the burglarized home. The recovered goods were returned to the rightful owner, the gun was booked into evidence, and the Honda was towed.
The swift arrests of the alleged burglars were praised by the Vallejo Police, extending gratitude to the observant citizen and CHP for their roles in helping remove the alleged crooks from the streets. Both men faced serious charges and had been booked into jail following the coordinated effort to curtail their reported crime spree.
