Williamson County has stepped up its game in supporting local heroes, with emergency financial assistance for veterans getting a generous boost. Initially endowed with a $210,000 grant from the Texas Veterans Commission, the program aimed at aiding veterans in urgent financial straits is reaching more of the county's warriors and their families.

Last year's grant has seen an update, widening the embrace to include all veterans drawing disability, their dependents, spouses, and the spouses who've had to carry on alone, the county reported. “Our veterans have given so much for our country that, we want to be able to help our veterans when they need emergency assistance,” Alicia Emmons, the Veteran Services Grant Coordinator, said in a statement obtained by WilcoTexas.gov. The expansion now shelters even those at a 100% disability rate or those individuals receiving unemployment directly from Veterans Affairs.

Help is well within reach for rent or mortgage payments, burial services, utilities, and even food – all through the grant, which aims at aiding those who have served honorably, or under honorable conditions. This safety net for our veterans is not merely a contribution but a duty fulfilled by the Williamson County Commissioners Court, acknowledging the weight of sacrifice carried on the shoulders of those who donned the uniform.

Qualifying vets and their loved ones can apply for the grant through the Williamson County Veteran Services Office. They are nestled inside the welcoming walls of the Georgetown Annex at 100 Wilco Way, in Georgetown, where applications are now being accepted. For those bearing the scars of service and those walking in solitary steadfastness as survivors.
