A woman was left injured after being shot during a brazen early morning robbery in Seattle’s Central District, officials said. The Seattle Police Department revealed that the incident unfolded just after 4 a.m. on the 600 block of 12th Avenue South, where the 51-year-old victim was accosted by a male suspect on a bicycle, KOMO News reported.
According to authorities, the unnamed woman was standing on the sidewalk when she was approached by the man who initially asked for a cigarette and then attempted to seize her purse – an encounter that escalated rapidly as the two struggled, and the man drew a gun, shooting the woman before fleeing south over the Jose Rizal Bridge, police officials added despite providing immediate medical aid, and summoned medics who took her to Harborview Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition, KIRO 7 detailed.
Officers promptly scoured the vicinity for the gunman but came up empty-handed, and Seattle police's robbery detectives are now spearheading the intensive investigation. The Seattle Police Department has called upon the community for assistance, asking anyone with information about the harrowing crime to reach out to their Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
The attack sends a chilling reminder of the violence that can erupt over mundane disputes, in broad public spaces, a truth that casts a long shadow across the bustling streets where residents once walked with a sense of measured safety; this latest act of violence blurring the line between the routine rhythm of urban life and its unexpected disruptions. At Harborview Medical Center the victim recovers, a stark testament to the fragility of security in the threads of day-to-day survival.
