
DETROIT — A terrifying overnight ordeal ended in relief when 3-year-old Kemahanni King, the subject of an urgent Amber Alert in Detroit, was found safe on Sunday morning. The Michigan State Police swiftly canceled the Amber Alert, which had sent waves of concern across phones statewide, after the young girl was located, as reported by The Detroit Free Press.
The search began after Kemahanni went missing late Saturday night, believed to have been in a black 2006 Chrysler 300 during what was suspected to be a car theft. According to the Michigan State Police, the vehicle with Michigan plates EQQ 8148 was stolen from the 15400 block of Schoolcraft Road. The alarm was raised and authorities quickly worked to thoroughly investigate and coordinate efforts to safely recover the girl, as mentioned in the Amber Alert announcement.
The Detroit Police Department later confirmed that the child was being checked out by medical personnel as a precaution, but fortunately, there were no immediate signs of harm following the incident. "The child was located safely," stated the Michigan State Police post. For further details, the Detroit Police Department has taken the lead, according to the state police's social media update.
While this particular crisis has been averted, law enforcement officials are still on the hunt to track down the suspect responsible for the carjacking. The suspect has been described as a Black male in his mid-40s to 50s, with a gray mustache and beard, measuring between approximately 5-foot-5 and 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing an “Army” colored jacket, gray sweatpants, and a gray hooded sweatshirt. WBTV and WXYZ reported similar details regarding the suspect's appearance.
