West Bloomfield Township is embroiled in controversy after a Jewish country club was targeted with anti-Israel graffiti. The vandalism at Knollwood Country Club followed a protest against an event hosted by Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, originally scheduled at the club but moved due to safety concerns.
The anti-Israel remarks sprayed onto the club's property included the phrases "F--- IDF" and "I hope U Die instead," a clear reference to the Israel Defense Forces. The Detroit Free Press reported the graffiti was discovered on Friday morning by the club staff. Protests a day before the discovery had seen approximately 30 demonstrators obstruct the country club's entrance, brandishing pro-Palestinian signs and causing the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces event to be relocated.
Michigan State Rep. Noah Arbit voiced his indignation over the incident, stating to the Oakland Press, "I am outraged and disgusted by this violation of a Jewish institution in the heart of our community." Arbit further criticized the vandalism as part of a growing trend of targeting Jewish institutions with hateful messages, linking antisemitism with purported advocacy for Palestinian rights.
Authorities have yet to arrest in connection to the vandalism, but the investigation remains active. According to BNN Breaking, calls for justice are mounting from the local community and Jewish advocacy groups, who are urging that the act be treated as a hate crime.
