Drivers in Arlington brace for another round of traffic disruptions as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) pushes forward with the $233 million Interstate 30/SH 360 Interchange Project. This latest development includes lane closures on SH 360 southbound main lanes between Ave J and Six Flags Drive that will go into effect nightly from Feb. 20-22, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
TxDOT advises travelers to anticipate delays from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. during these dates as crews will be carrying out painting work. With changes being subject to weather and scheduling, updates on the progression of the construction, which is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2023, are available on the Keep 30360 Moving website. The City of Arlington has teamed up with the navigation app Waze to help drivers navigate the closures more smoothly. This free app, available for both iOS and Android users, offers real-time traffic updates, optimal routing, and alternatives to circumvent road closures.
The project has seen significant milestones reached previously, with the eastbound I-30 main lanes switching to their permanent location between Ballpark Way and Great Southwest Parkway on Sept. 10, 2023. A new traffic pattern was introduced on Nov. 22, 2023, for the I-30 westbound main lanes between Great Southwest Parkway and Ballpark Way, signaling a closer step toward the project's completion. On the infrastructure front, the I-30 and SH 360 interchange has had multiple ramps placed into service, easing the burden on arterial roads and augmenting connectivity across the area.
Motorists have been alerted to be aware of new traffic patterns as a result of these changes—among them, the opening of the I-30 eastbound exit to the SH 360 southbound main lanes on Aug. 9, 2020. Despite the nuisances that such closures present, they represent an investment in long-term improvements to infrastructure, traffic flow, and safety—a catalyst for Arlington's continuing growth and development.
