The City of Arlington has got itself a new economic guru. Meet Gus Garcia, the freshly minted Economic Development Director ready to steer Arlington’s ship of commerce starting February 20. His arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter as the city looks to tap deeper into the wellspring of global economic currents.

"We are adding an accomplished and broadly experienced economic development professional to our team," Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton said, as per the City of Arlington, Texas. Gus is expected to aggressively push forward their strategic goals, ones to thoroughly shake up local redevelopment and community development, all while making waves in the worldwide economy.

Garcia's no greenhorn when it comes to city-scale economics. He's racked up 15 years as one of the municipal bigwigs, cutting his teeth in Duncanville as the development director before climbing up to managing director of development services. This guy’s seen it all, from healthcare real estate to leading Edinburg's Economic Development like a boss. He's even got time logged in with NELTEX Sports & Development as a consultant. Dust off those diplomas, because Gus has them in spades, from UT Rio Grande Valley BBA in Accounting to Georgetown and Oklahoma University creds in Innovation, Leadership, and Economic Development.

Garcia's got his game face on and is ready to dive into Arlington's bustling scene. "The City is booming and opportunity for business attraction is everywhere. As an economic developer, I can't help but be drawn to it," Garcia said, per the City of Arlington, Texas. He's set to join a squad that helps local businesses grow and create those all-important job opportunities. Arlington isn't playing small ball; it's the nation's 50th largest city, with big hitters like D.R. Horton and General Motors in its roster.
