In a bid to stem the tide of financial emergencies that often rob students of their educational pursuits, Austin Community College District is diving into the heart of Amplify Austin for the seventh year straight, with ambitions to reel in a hefty $50,000 for their Student Emergency Fund. The 24-hour fundraising marathon kicks off at 6 p.m. this Wednesday, March 6, and powers through until 6 p.m. the next day, according to ACC.
Steve Christopher, the associate vice chancellor for Student Accessibility & Social Support Resources at ACC, pointed out the precarious situation many students find themselves in, with even minor unexpected expenses, such as a flat tire, potentially cutting off their route to education and employment; this insight, shared in a statement obtained by the ACC newsroom, underscores the vital nature of the Student Emergency Fund.
ACC's call to action doesn't just ask for direct donations; it includes a matching challenge where ACC leaders can double down, so to speak, on gifts given by others – if an ACC affiliate doles out $100, it can burgeon into $200 under this scheme. The details of the match program and how ACC employees can sign up were outlined in instructions accessed through the ACC newsroom.
Moreover, ACC is equipping its staff and supporters with digital tools to drum up support; they can create personal fundraising pages through the ACC Amplify Austin page, and then use social media to rally friends and family. They're encouraged to get creative with their campaigns, perhaps by snapping an "I Amplify ACC because..." selfie to share online, complementing the movement with the hashtags #AmplifyACC and #AmplifyATX – as described by the ACC newsroom.
