Carrollton's local geeks and pop culture enthusiasts have their calendars marked for the return of the Carrollton Public Library’s annual extravaganza, C-Con, setting their cosplay sights on Josey Ranch Lake Library come March 15. With the promise of a sensory-friendly atmosphere, the event spans the gamut of fandoms from anime to superheroes and invites everyone to revel in an array of activities from crafting to trivia, according to the City of Carrollton, Texas.
From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., all ages are welcome, with no charge to join the festivities – a nod toward inclusive, community fun. Participants can let their creative spirits soar, making custom coasters out of comic book pages, or for the competitively inclined, they can try their hands in a Pokémon-themed race. For dance enthusiasts, the Korean American Youth Artists of Texas (KAYAT) are set to teach some K-pop moves, a boon for anyone itching to learn some new grooves.
Younger attendees aren't left out, with Superhero Story Time crafted for the littles. Teens get their niche with the Teen Lair –, a hangout zone equipped with games, crafts, and anime viewing. The convention also challenges families to team up and solve puzzles in a cat café-themed escape room, easily one of the day's head-turners.
The cosplay community gets its due at C-Con, with a new Cosplay Runway inviting fans to flaunt their homages to beloved characters. "This will be our second annual C-Con," Youth Services Librarian Amanda Middlebrooks enthused, "We hope that, with the schools out for spring break, the whole family can visit the Library for this free event and maybe even discover a new favorite fandom," according to the City of Carrollton, Texas.
Snacks to fuel the festivities, and craft supplies for the various activities will be on tap while they last. For those seeking a moment of quiet and calm, the library ensures a need is met with available coloring, sensory toys, and noise-canceling headphones. Specific activities such as the Pokémon Puzzle Race and the Cat Café Escape Room do require registration, open at 10 a.m. on the day of the event, giving fair warning to eager attendees.
