Residents of Carrollton are gearing up to directly engage with their city leaders as Mayor Steve Babick prepares to deliver the State of the City address at the 16th annual Citizens’ Evening. Scheduled for March 27, Carrollton's own Senior Center will play host to the community-centric event, with doors set to open at 6 p.m. In a bid to more closely connect citizens with their local government, the event will also feature a chance for the public to meet and mix with Carrollton officials and the community's Neighborhood Advisory Commission.
This year's Citizens’ Evening, according to a statement obtained by the City of Carrollton, promises an array of informational booths from various City departments and outreach from social service agencies serving the Carrollton constituency. Mayor Babick aims to thoroughly highlight upcoming projects, events, and community programs during his address, an initiative in tandem with the city's mantra, "Where Connections Happen."
"City Council’s vision is for Carrollton to be the community that families and businesses want to call home," Mayor Babick said. "It takes responsive leadership, hard-working staff, and an engaged citizenry to realize that vision. I invite all residents to join us as I share some of the exciting new developments happening in Carrollton as well as providing a progress report on the important work accomplished over the last year", as per the City of Carrollton.
In the spirit of recognizing the impact of communal effort, the Carrollton Cares Volunteer Awards will also be a focal point of the evening. Deputy Mayor Pro Tem H.A. “Rusty” Pendleton is expected to honor those who consistently go above and beyond in service to the city. These awards pay tribute to the individuals, groups, and leaders whose commitment has been pivotal for the community. “Carrollton is grateful for the leadership and hours of service volunteers across the community have provided," Community Services Manager Brian Passwaters said. “Members of the Neighborhood Partnership Office and the Neighborhood Advisory Commission, who sponsor the event, are excited to recognize volunteers who have contributed their time, ideas, and efforts in making our community such a great place”, according to the City of Carrollton, Texas.
The Carrollton Senior Center is located at 1720 Keller Springs Road, where this free and open-to-the-public event is slated to not only inform but also celebrate the city's initiatives and its civic-minded citizens.
