A Corpus Christi man has entered a guilty plea to charges of distributing child pornography, per a release from U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Jonathan Follis, 46, was caught using a cell phone to share illicit images and partake in depraved chat room discussions about child pornography.

The sordid activities conducted by Follis were discovered when authorities zeroed in on a chatroom frequented by individuals with a predilection for child pornography. Follis used a phone that he thought cleverly hidden under his office keyboard to freely to distribute the illegal materials. After a search of his workplace led to the finding of the device, Follis confessed to his crimes.

"The investigation into Jonathan Follis began when authorities discovered he was participating in chat rooms involving discussions of child pornography," according to an official statement. His username "frickenwierdo" became known to law enforcement who later confirmed his participation in the distribution of disturbing videos, one as recent as April 5, 2023.

A forensic analysis was performed on the seized phone, further incriminating Follis by verifying that he had indeed been engaging in and distributing child exploitation content. U.S. District Judge David Morales is scheduled to sentence Follis on May 1. He faces a potential 20-year jail sentence and a $250,000 maximum fine, according to the Department of Justice.

As he awaits sentencing, Follis will remain behind bars. The case against him was a collaborative effort spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations with help from the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force. The case is a part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative ongoing since 2006, aiming to combat the sexual exploitation and abuse of minors.
