Culver City's financial savvy has won them a trio of prestigious accolades from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), a fact that's got local officials puffing out their chests a bit. Not only did the city snag an accolade for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the fiscal year that wrapped up mid-2022, but they've also continued a decades-long streak of financial transparency and excellence.
According to a bulletin released by the city, Culver City received its 38th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence for their Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. The report, prepared by staff who, having shown dedication, crafted a document that an impartial panel deemed clear enough to effectively communicate the city's financial story to the masses.
Culver City Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin, glowing with pride, said in a statement, "We are proud of their achievement and recognition". She quickly pivoted to a commitment to transparency, "I look forward to continue working with them to ensure that we remain a city that is transparent with taxpayer money and how we use it across Culver City."
Lisa Soghor, Chief Financial Officer of Culver City, told the city's dispatch, "We pride ourselves on being fiscally responsible and transparent with taxpayer dollars." Exploring new frontiers in financial reporting, the city cooked up a Popular Annual Financial Report that's designed to invite those who might be otherwise deterred by the complexity of traditional financial documents, a first-time effort that didn't escape the GFOA's notice.
As if the shelves weren't already buckling under the weight of these awards, the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for Fiscal Year 2021-2022 got added to the haul, making Culver City a GFOA Triple Crown Award Winner. Nestled within Los Angeles's sprawl, this small but mighty community continues to make a name for itself with its top-tier public schools, cozy charm, a hub for tech and creativity, and its bustling downtown that's got the regional lowdown as the place to be for dining, theater, and art.
