Residents in Dallas with outstanding warrants have caught a break - and an opportunity to do some good. Starting this Saturday, the Dallas Municipal Court is letting folks wipe out their City of Dallas warrant fees, but there's a catch: bring in a new, unopened blanket or throw to donate. According to the recent bulletin from the City of Dallas, offenders must check in with the court clerk along with their cozy contributions when they show up to see a judge.

The move is part of a project to help the city's homeless, with all collected blankets and throws going straight to the Office of Homeless Solutions. While meeting their legal obligations, respondents can take part in a compassionate act. And for the wary, rest assured – those coming forward to settle up Class C misdemeanor warrants won't be slapped with cuffs.

It's a limited-time offer, though. Those looking to clear their docket can do so at various locations from Feb. 24 to March 7. The initiative kicks off this weekend at the Willie B. Johnson Recreation Center and the White Rock Hills Library, from 8 a.m. until the stroke of noon - latecomers won't be seen. The following week brings even more options with the Municipal Court hosting sessions in the morning and afternoon, and additional locations opening their doors the first weekend in March.

Just don't forget your ID when checking in. The court requires government-issued photo identification. But manage your expectations – the judge is only seeing six violations per person a day. If your rap sheet's longer, you might need to make a few trips.
