DALLAS – A massive $5 billion pediatric health campus is on the horizon for Dallas, a joint venture between Children's Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center that promises to be a game-changer for pediatric health care in the region. With the population boom in North Texas showing no signs of slowing down, this state-of-the-art medical behemoth is geared up to address the expected surge in pediatric health needs, according to a FOX 4 News report.

Set to be located in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District, the new pediatric campus will cover a sprawling 33 acres and is slated for groundbreaking later this year, with a construction timeline of six to seven years. SMU economist Mike Davis, reflecting on the project, noted that such a massive development is indicative of how rapidly North Texas is expanding. "When you grow the way DFW has grown, you need to expand everything, and these high-end medical facilities are extremely important," Davis shared in a statement obtained by FOX 4 News.

The new hospital is envisioned to be larger than the Pentagon with two million square feet of space encompassing two 12-story towers and an eight-story tower. According to the UT Southwestern's statement, this behemoth of healthcare infrastructure aims to supersede the existing Children's Medical Center Dallas, increasing bed count by 38%, with room for further expansion.

Chris Durovich, the president and CEO of Children’s Health, highlighted the vision behind the campus, saying, "That will really allow us to meet our families, where they are at, in some of the most difficult times of our lives," in a statement obtained by FOX 4 News. The campus, designed with a focus on patient-centric care, also boasts a planned connector bridge to Clements University Hospital – ensuring seamless care and immediate access to specialized pediatric units. In the competitive landscape of medical services, where institutions like UT Austin and Texas Medical Center in Houston have made their mark, Durovich sees this project as a magnet to attract people to North Texas to bolster the economy.

Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D., president of UT Southwestern Medical Center, described the partnership as a new chapter in their more than 60-year history of collaboration. "The expertise on our campus, supported by state-of-the-art technologies and facilities, will enhance our commitment to excellence and compassion in providing the very best care for children and position us to accelerate the future of pediatric medicine together," he told UT Southwestern Newsroom. Amidst DFW's relentless pace of growth, this new pediatric campus is being designed not just as a hospital, but as a sanctuary of cutting-edge medical care for the exponential pediatric population projections, which could double by 2050, per FOX 4 News.
