Residents in Dearborn on the brink of a diabetes diagnosis have been thrown a lifeline. Starting February 12, a free support group aimed at people at risk for Type 2 Diabetes will be available at the Henry Ford Centennial Library, according to the City of Dearborn's official site. The program, a combined effort of Corewell Health and the CDC, promises to actively help individuals adopt a healthier lifestyle.

In a battle to stave off diabetes, the Corewell Health-led initiative seeks to directly empower participants with the tools they need. Informational sessions will kickstart the program in room 15 on the library's third floor, where the importance of nutrition, exercise, and stress management will be heavily emphasized. Adults ready to tackle their health head-on are encouraged to register for the program either online at Beaumont.org/DPP or by dialing 800-633-7377.

This year-long intervention entails weekly meetings for the initial six months, with the frequency of sessions dropping to once or twice monthly during the back half of the year. Each meeting is geared towards maintaining the lifestyle changes advocated by the program and to ultimately ward off the development of Type 2 Diabetes.

Not only are participants slated to gain invaluable coaching on diet and exercise, but they'll also learn how to strategically manage stress – a key factor in maintaining overall health. With regular support, the program aims to continually motivate individuals, to always find solutions for challenges obstructing healthy lifestyle adjustments.
