Detroit Honors Veterans with New Fisher House, Cementing Support for Military FamiliesSource: Fisher House Michigan

In a recent show of support for those who've defended our nation, Detroit has taken a significant step toward aiding military families. The city celebrated a construction benchmark, the 'Topping Off Ceremony,' for the new Fisher House at the John D. Dingle VA Medical Center.

According to FOX 2 Detroit, Fisher House Foundation's President, David Coker, highlighted the importance of these facilities, "We believe it’s our duty to provide an environment where families can focus solely on healing free of financial worry or finding a safe place to stay in an unfamiliar city while a loved one is receiving medical care."

Rep. Debbie Dingell, who also spoke at an event, touched on a personal connection to the project, “I was very proud to get the Ann Arbor one – this has been my dream for longer than you can (imagine), and it’s a reality, we’re making it a reality,” she told FOX 2 Detroit.

The upcoming Fisher House is poised to be one of the largest in the United States and is slated for opening this fall. It will offer 20 private family suites, ensuring that no veteran's family member needs to worry about the cost of accommodations while their servicemember receives medical care. As BNN Breaking reports, "Beyond the bricks and mortar, the new Fisher House in Detroit represents a sanctuary of healing and togetherness."

GlobeNewswire notes the Fisher House's operation falls under a public-private partnership, with Delta Air Lines and Fisher House Michigan playing critical roles in funding. "Delta Air Lines is proud to help bring a Fisher House to Detroit," Eric Pricco, Director of Airport Services – Detroit for Delta Air Lines, said in a statement obtained by GlobeNewswire acknowledging the company's commitment to military and veteran communities. Once operational, the Detroit Fisher House is expected to save veteran families more than half a million dollars annually.

This latest project serves as a palpable way to fulfill a promise made to service members and their families, offering practical support to veterans and a tangible symbol of the high esteem with which their service is held. The combined efforts of organizations and individuals stand testament to the power of community when rallied behind our nation's veterans.
