A fire that broke out in the early morning hours at the Arbor One Apartments in Ypsilanti, Michigan, has left dozens of residents without a home. Flames were reported shooting through the roof of the building, located at 773 W. Clark Road, around 2 a.m. Wednesday, igniting a large-scale response from various fire departments.
The blaze caused significant damage to one of the three-story apartment complex's buildings, prompting power to be cut by DTE Energy, according to CBS Detroit. Ypsilanti Fire Chief Ken Hobbs told WWJ Newsradio 950, "Pretty much everyone in this building is going be displaced," noting the combined damage from the fire, water, and loss of electricity.
No injuries were reported, but the displaced residents have been thrust into seeking temporary shelter. In a statement obtained by WXYZ, officials said the American Red Cross is providing assistance to those affected. They have established a temporary haven at the Eagle Crest Conference Center, where volunteers work to offer comfort and care to the evacuees.
While the investigators are searching for the cause of the fire, Ken Hobbs asserted that the top apartments had smoke, fire, and water damage, with the lower levels being inundated by water. According to officials, "Our AMA partners, which are Ypsilanti Township and Superior and then we get Pittsville, Ann Arbor City and Ann Arbor Township," six departments were at the scene, as crews battled to contain and extinguish the fire.
