A Houston man, 74, was found severely injured in his apartment complex stairwell, sparking an investigation into what his family believes was foul play. The victim, identified as Louis Redmon, was discovered in the Leo Daniels Tower, a residence providing affordable housing for seniors and disabled individuals, located on the 8800 block of Harrell Street.
Family members frantically began to search for Redmon after they were alerted by a neighbor on Monday morning to his medical distress. Despite assurances from management that they would conduct a search, or "sweep" of the building, it was not until nearly 9 hours later that Redmon's daughter and granddaughter uncovered a bloody scene. "We found him on the fifth floor full of blood, with his brains badgered out", Redmon's granddaughter Brande Reed told ABC13.
Reed said that the family received a call from another resident early Monday, claiming Redmon appeared disoriented, a symptom consistent with his history of seizures. When the family arrived at the Leo Daniels Tower, they were told by management that a building search would be initiated. Redmon's daughter, Monique Gordon, told ABC13, they took the search into their own hands after failing to locate Redmon elsewhere.
Upon their return, the family struggled to comprehend how the elderly man could have been overlooked if a thorough search had truly been conducted. The lack of surveillance footage and communication from management only increased their mistrust and frustration."Why wouldn't you come out as a manager, as a human being, and say 'I'm so sorry, what happened to your Dad?' What's going on? None of that. I'm still waiting on a phone call. I'm still waiting on a phone call," Reed vented in an interview obtained by FOX 26. Redmon is currently hospitalized at Ben Taub Hospital, undergoing treatment for a brain bleed, and the injuries suggest an assault rather than an accidental fall.
The Houston Police Department has since been involved, investigating the case as an assault, according to reports. Meanwhile, staff members at the apartment complex have declined to comment on the situation.
