The Fort Worth Fire Department has dispatched 15 brave firefighters into the heart of the raging #SmokehouseCreekFire in Hutchinson County, part of the Texas Panhandle, where a massive inferno has scorched 500,000 acres with firefighters yet to achieve any containment. The team departed to join an extensive battle against one of the season's most daunting blazes.
Among those deployed, a team of eight firefighters has joined forces with the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), while five have been assigned to Texas A&M Task Force 1, and two more have bolstered the ranks of Texas Task Force 2. Deployed with them, they brought along 2 #FWFD brush trucks and 1 #FWFD pickup truck to face the monstrous challenge they are set before, according to a post by the Fort Worth Fire Department.
The current deployment is slated for a possible 14-day stretch, where the situation will be assessed and rotations made if necessary. These highly skilled professionals are adding their expertise to the hundreds of other firefighters already on-site. Their only mission: to contain a fire that has defeat seemed to mock the efforts of man so far, with a zero percent containment rate reported.
Your thoughts and prayers have been requested by the department for both the residents affected by the wildfires and the safety of the crews working relentlessly through the smoke and the heat. Updates will be provided as more information emerges from the frontline of this incendiary battle, the Fort Worth Fire Department has confirmed.
