Tesia Kwarteng, the Ghanaian American singing sensation, can now include 'Broadway star' to her ever-growing resume. Fresh off her debut in "Camelot" on Broadway, Kwarteng has proven that talents honed in the heart of Texas can indeed dazzle the glitzy stages of New York City. While her rise to fame may seem like an overnight success to some, this mezzo-soprano has been perfecting her craft since she could tie her shoes, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
Despite having trodden boards across the nation, including a notable off-Broadway debut at Lincoln Center Theater, it was Kwarteng's principal artist debut in the Metropolitan Opera's "Hamlet" that got opera aficionados talking in 2022. Singing her way through adolescence, the University of Texas at Arlington alumna had her musical chops tested early, making her stage debut at the prestigious Carnegie Hall.
"Music and singing have always been part of my life," Kwarteng said, sharing how intrinsic music is to her very being. She credits a robust support system, particularly during her college years, for her flourishing career—a career that saw her shine at Opera Columbus’ "Carmen." It’s a community that will support you, push you to grow and help you develop your own excellence as you learn how to be your best self," she reminisced about her time in Arlington. Yet, it wasn't just the community but the Department of Music faculty in particular, that assisted her in securing her initial professional credits, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
Kwarteng's dedication to her art also led her to pursue further education, securing a master's degree in voice performance from the Manhattan School of Music. With a journey that began in the suburbs of Dallas and has led to the bright lights of Broadway, Kwarteng's story is a testament to the hard work and dedication that drives the true American dream.
