A free SKYWARN severe weather education class, provided by the National Weather Service, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Granville Arts Center, located at 300 N. Fifth St.

The initiative is part of a national effort to bolster community readiness against the whims of Mother Nature. To comprehensively prepare the public, no preregistration or fees are required to join the class. It's an open invitation for residents to come and learn how to better predict and safely respond during tumultuous weather conditions.

According to the City of Garland, the program is set to include insight from qualified broadcast meteorologists from Fox 4 (KDFW-TV). These experts in storm systems and weather patterns aim to educate both experienced storm spotters as much as those new to the concept of severe weather. The conversation spans from the understanding of storm structure to recognizing potential dangers.

Tapping into local knowledge, the class also serves as a platform for attendees to share experiences and strategies to collectively enhance their weather response playbook. It's not merely about absorbing information but also about participating in a larger dialogue that could potentially save lives and mitigate property damage when severe weather strikes.
