A routine traffic stop turned perilous on the N Sam Houston Tollway West yesterday when a trailer detached from its towing vehicle, slamming into a female Constable Deputy's patrol car. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office confirmed the incident that led to the officer being hospitalized with injuries sustained in the unexpected collision.
The deputy had pulled over a driver just prior to the accident. "A female Constable Deputy conducted a traffic stop, when a trailer became unhooked from another vehicle, striking the back of her patrol vehicle," detailed a facebook post from Constable Mark Herman Precinct's official page. While the officer's condition is not immediately known, the driver involved in the traffic stop reportedly escaped injury.
Law enforcement was quick to respond, cordoning off the area which led to significant police presence on the tollway. The sequence of events that resulted in the trailer becoming unhitched and subsequently hitting the deputy's vehicle is still under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the name of the injured constable deputy or the driver of the vehicle towing the unhinged trailer.
The Harris County Precinct 4 is continuing to investigate the mishap. "She has been transported to a local hospital for injuries," the Constable Mark Herman Precinct's facebook statement.
