HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man was taken into custody for allegedly driving while intoxicated after deputies found him asleep at the wheel on an East Harris County road last week. The incident occurred in the 8000 block of FM 1960 Road East, where authorities responded to reports of a driver slumped over in his vehicle, according to a Facebook post by Constable Mark Herman's Office.
The suspect, named as Gabriel Calderon, reportedly showed "multiple signs of intoxication," a statement released by the Constable's office. In a decision prioritizing safety, Standardized Field Sobriety tests were deemed inappropriate for Calderon's condition. Instead, he was given the chance to provide a breath sample, which he refused, leading deputies to obtain and execute a blood sample warrant.
"Gabriel Calderon was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated," Constable Mark Herman stated. The authorities set Calderon's bond at a modest $100.00, routed through County Court 13. This incident raises persistent questions about the ongoing issue of drunk driving and the risks it poses to community safety.
The Constable's Facebook announcement did not include additional details of Calderon's arrest, nor did it mention if anyone else was present or affected during the episode. These procedural maneuvers reflect a systematic approach to dealing with suspects under the influence, mindful of both legal protocols and individual rights.
