
Flames engulfed the defunct McCarthy's Music Venue in Detroit on Monday night, with fire crews battling the blaze into the late hours. Detroit police have reported that the building is on the corner of West Fort Street and 10th Street.
According to FOX 2 Detroit, a 65-year-old man was taken to a local hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. He mentioned to the first responders a companion was possibly still inside the perilous structure, but at the time of reporting, this person had not been found. The fire was reported just before 10 p.m. causing, emergency services to spring into action.
Onsite at 1600 W. Fort Street, across from the Salvation Army, officials deemed the venue structurally compromised. The Detroit News indicated that the severity of the damage dictated a wait for a demolition team to safely raze the building, confirming that no salvageable items remained inside.
ClickOnDetroit reported a concerning development: the roof of the historic building had collapsed, illustrating the ferocity of the flames. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately two hours.
