A man was nabbed by law enforcement for allegedly driving drunk and toting a gun. Michael Carter was pulled over by a sergeant on February 20, 2024, as he cruised down the 17000 block of Sculptured Rock showing signs of intoxication, according to a Facebook post from Constable Mark Herman's Office.
Carter reportedly refused to undergo Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and declined to provide breath or blood samples. But the constable deputies didn't back down easily and went on to secure a warrant to draw Carter's blood directly. The investigation further turned up that Carter was unlawfully carrying a firearm at the time of the stop.
As a result of the traffic stop and subsequent findings, Carter was hauled off to the Harris County Jail. "Michael Carter was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. His total bond was set at $200.00 out of County Court 8," Constable Mark Herman stated.
The suspect's bond amount may seem modest, but the charges he faces are serious. The accused now has to navigate the legal hurdles that await anyone snagged for driving under the influence and inadvertently bringing a weapon along for the ride. Carter's choice to not readily submit to sobriety testing suggests a refusal to acknowledge the weight of his alleged actions at the moment, a decision that seems to only have compounded his troubles with the law.
