A young man's need for speed has ended in tragedy—and now he's facing serious time. Jorge Clemente, 21, was arrested and slapped with intoxication manslaughter charges after a deadly crash on the Katy Freeway that claimed the life of a 34-year-old male motorcyclist, law enforcement officials reported.

The identity of the victim, who was tossed from his blue Suzuki V-Storm like a ragdoll on Monday around 1 p.m., is still being confirmed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A high-speed chase turned deadly when Clemente, allegedly hammered behind the wheel of his red Dodge Durango, went from weaving through traffic to barreling over from an emergency lane and smashing into an unfortunate biker near the 10600 block of the freeway, authorities outlined.

Details from City of Houston News indicate the force of the impact was enough to eject the man from his motorcycle, right before he was struck by the Durango itself. The Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived on the gruesome scene and pronounced the man dead.

Meanwhile, Clemente got off with minor injuries and a trip to the hospital, where signs he was impaired led to his quick arrest. "According to a witness, the driver of a red Dodge Durango was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound near the above address in the left emergency lane and weaving from lane to lane," HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. James and Officer R. Ramos reported. Now deposited behind bars, Clemente is booked and awaiting his day in court, with the Harris County District Attorney’s Officer moving swiftly to ensure justice for the reckless loss of life.
