Get ready, cookie monsters: It’s almost Girl Scout cookie time in Houston. Following an annual tradition sweetened with a sense of community and entrepreneurial spirit, local Girl Scouts are gearing up to sell an array of beloved cookies starting February 16, as reported by Axios.

But brace yourselves for a small hit to your wallet. This year, each box will fetch $6, a buck more than last year. The hikes reflect the impact inflation is having on the cost of pretty much everything—the Girl Scouts included. Despite the uptick in prices, Houston-area troops are in for a treat, receiving a 20% boost in proceeds from each box sold.

From South Dakota's ABC Bakers to Louisville, Kentucky's Little Brownie Bakers, just two players bake up the entire nation's quota of Girl Scout cookies. Heather Ganucheau, marketing and communications director for the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, detailed to the Houston Chronicle, that Houston's cookies undertake a 1,000-mile journey to reach the hands of eager local scouts.

While the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council CEO, Mary Vitek, told Axios, "Launching into a new Girl Scout cookie season is like opening a door to endless possibilities for our girls and their troops," the kids will set up booths up across town. With last year's starting haul totaling over 200,000 cases, the scouts are no strangers to big sales, and this year's take could go even higher.

Cookie aficionados will recognize favorites such as Thin Mints and Samoas—forever known as Caramel deLites in Houston, thanks to ABC Bakers’ nomenclature—and newcomers can look forward to this year's lineup that includes tastes like Adventurefuls and Toast-Yay! But you better act fast; the cookie season lasts through March 24, offering a mere window to stock up on these seasonal treats.
