In a tragic unfolding of events in Houston, an 18-year-old has found himself facing murder charges after the fatal shooting of his older brother. Houston Police confirmed the arrest of Christopher Mares for the death of Jose Mares, 27, who was found dead at an apartment complex on Erby Street this past Saturday.
Tragedy struck at approximately 6 p.m., when authorities received a call concerning a person down at the 3903 Erby Street address. Reports from the City of Houston News indicate that arriving officers discovered a grim scene — witnesses led them to a bedroom closet, where Jose Mares lay lifeless, riddled with multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect, his own flesh and blood, had vanished from the scene almost like he dissolved into shadow.
As investigators pieced together the night's events, Detectives A. Finlay and L. Kauffman of the HPD Homicide Division gathered enough evidence to suggest that the shots which echoed through the apartment, sealing Jose's fate, were fired by none other than Christopher Mares. The young suspect seemingly bore the weight of his actions and subsequently turned himself into police custody. He now faces charges as severe as the outcome of that fateful encounter.
