Two teenagers found themselves handcuffed after a volatile confrontation ended with gunfire in downtown Houston. According to the Houston Police Department, the pair were embroiled in a dispute with a man over a scooter on the 1400 block of McKinney, near Austin, that quickly escalated into violence just before the 8:30 p.m. mark on Saturday.
Reportedly becoming both physically and verbally confrontational, the man allegedly attempted to make off with the teens' scooter and lunged at the startled adolescents. In an apparent effort to protect themselves, one of the youths is said to have drawn a firearm and discharge it, striking the man in the belly. "The man took the scooter from the teens and charged at them," Lt. Riley with HPD elucidated in a statement obtained by KTRK.
First responders transported the wounded individual to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Meanwhile, the teenage suspects were apprehended after authorities arrived at the scene. "Witnesses started paying attention to the spat and were able to give officials an accurate description of teens," added the HPD, according to KTRK.
With the assistance of onlookers and surveillance footage, police quickly managed to track down both participants of the altercation. The suspects, described as in their late teens, were taken into custody, though their exact ages could not be confirmed immediately due to a lack of identification. "The teens were taken into custody after the shooting, with a firearm recovered," reported FOX26 Houston in their coverage of the incident.
