Hutto law enforcement is on high alert after a rash of vehicle break-ins has the quiet town on edge. The Hutto Police Department is putting out a call for tips following a spree of car burglaries that occurred Sunday evening near Limmer Loop. According to a statement obtained by CBS Austin, these incidents have become an all too common issue in the Williamson County area, with HPD lamenting that "traveling groups of people with the sole purpose of stealing property from your vehicle," have been targeting the community.
These thieves are not picky, they pounce on any opportunity that presents itself—literally walking down streets testing car doors, and if unlocked, they swipe anything they can grab in seconds. If caught in the act, they scatter, darting towards a pre-arranged getaway car, and just like that, they vanish into the night. As reported by CBS Austin, Hutto Police are urging residents to lock up and hide valuables to curb these break-ins.
In a concerted effort to combat and solve these crimes, the Hutto Police Department encourages community vigilance. Information can also be anonymously shared through the Tip411 app, a tool that recently helped officers respond to the latest string of break-ins. Those without the app can send texts to 847411 with the keyword HUTTOPD.
For residents who prefer another line of communication, tips can be emailed to [email protected], or submitted on the HPD's dedicated 411 website, as per the KVUE report which allows the public to provide details, descriptions, and even images of the incidents. As the community stands on alert, these measures offer some ways residents can help law enforcement keep the peace and safety within their neighborhood intact.
