Mark your calendars for a slice of community festivity as Judkins Park gets a dazzling upgrade. A ribbon cutting extravaganza is locked in for Thursday, February 15, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., celebrating the park’s new lighting system and improved access, all laid out on the Mountain to Sound Trail. This local shindig promises remarks, a ceremonial snip of the ribbon, and refreshments at the park's basketball court beside 2161 S. Judkins St. Attendees can look forward to illuminating their evening with a stroll in the newly lit park or, for the more adventurous spirits, joining a night skate event with Roll Around Sea-Town, according to the City of Seattle.
Assembling a dream team, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities, Sound Transit, and Washington State Department of Transportation pulled their resources together. The goal? Pave the way for the upcoming Sound Transit Judkins Park Light Rail Station, set for a grand unveiling in 2025. This project, a testament to the power of partnership, will be a boon for local dwellers and future rail commuters alike.
Moving the needle on neighborhood connectivity, the slew of enhancements comprises ADA-compliant paths, a shiny new staircase at Hiawatha Place S complete with a bike runnel, all bathed in trail lighting, and a signalized pedestrian beeline at 23rd Ave. S & S Grand St. These upgrades didn’t appear out of thin air; they're the fruit of fiscal backing from the Sound Transit System Access Fund Grant and the Move Seattle Levy, ensuring that the project was more than just pie in the sky.
According to the City of Seattle, the improvements are in anticipation of the Judkins Park Light Rail Station, which is slated to become a new throbbing vein in Seattle's transit system. This ribbon (cutting) is just the beginning of a series of upgrades and enhancements poised to keep the Emerald City shining bright and moving smoothly.
