Flames ripped through a Koreatown apartment on Thursday, but thanks to the swift action of the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire was extinguished within 24 minutes. According to an LAFD alert, the blaze burst out at approximately 12:19 p.m. at 520 S Kenmore Avenue, targeting one unit at the rear of a four-story garden-style apartment complex, where three floors sit atop parking.
The fire was successfully knocked down by 12:43 p.m., after 32 firefighters battled the inferno which was limited to the kitchen area of a second-floor apartment. The LAFD confirmed that the 18,783-square-foot building, which houses 24 units, did not witness any injuries as a result of the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no injuries were reported according to details provided on the LAFD website.
Residents in the surrounding apartments were alarmed by the midday emergency but took solace in the fact that no one was harmed. Firefighting personnel from Stations 6 and 11, and several other units, including rescue ambulances and battalion chiefs, responded to the scene. Their quick work ensured that the fire did not spread beyond the kitchen where it erupted.
The involved apartment building, located in the Central Bureau, Council District 10, is now in the recovery phase after the incident. The LAFD has not yet released additional information on potential displacements or damage assessments.
