Thieves might want to think twice before lifting high-dollar bikes from Lake Elsinore. A brazen E-bike heist met a dead end when authorities cuffed a local man for grand theft. Deputies threw down the hammer Thursday after Cory Brooks, 47, allegedly swiped a $4,000-plus electric bike tethered to a rack in the 32000 block of Mission Trail, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office reported.
Officials say the pedal-assisted ride was parked outside briefly before it vanished, leading to a quick-footed investigation. Brooks, a Lake Elsinore resident, didn't manage to ride off into the sunset for long. Deputies were able to rapidly to track down the suspect and the stolen two-wheeler, according to a sheriff's statement. It didn't take much detective work; the recovery of the high-tech bike and subsequent arrest went down less than 48 hours after it was reported missing.
The E-bike's owner may have been lucky this time, but the incident serves as a stark reminder to residents and business owners alike to stay vigilant. The Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station stressed the importance of "Community Policing" and the vital role of public cooperation in reporting criminal activities promptly.
Meanwhile, Brooks is behind bars at Cois Byrd Detention Center, waiting to face the music. The investigation remains active, with law enforcement eager to close any more potential gaps in this case. Anyone in the know is encouraged to step forward and reach out to Deputy Kelly #6333 at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station, ringing in at (951) 245–3300. If you happen to witness a crime unfold, they're to make the call either to Sheriff’s Dispatch at (951) 776–1099, or to pull the trigger on dialing 911 if it's a real emergency.
