The streets of Los Angeles witnessed a brazen act of violence late last month, as robbery suspects targeted an unidentified man for his watch; the Los Angeles Police Department is now seeking the public's assistance in a bid to bring the perpetrators to justice. According to the LAPD Newsroom, the incident unfolded on January 30, 2024, around the vicinity of Melrose Avenue, where the victim was accosted and after a forceful struggle, assaulted and robbed.
The altercation, taking place near the 8200 block, escalated when the victim resisted the demands for his watch, leading to him being pistol-whipped by one of the suspects, in a harrowing display of ruthlessness they wrenched the timepiece from his wrist and escaped in a getaway vehicle described as a white 2014 Toyota Corolla, the victim, reeling but resilient navigated away from the turmoil, steering a black SUV out from the dervish of danger even before the LAPD could arrive on the scene. The assailants, two young men both in the tender bracket of their early twenties, had gone into this with the forethought of felons—one garbed in a gray jumpsuit, the other masked by the anonymity of dark attire.
However, a breakthrough came swiftly, according to the LAPD Newsroom, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies got the drop on one of the suspects the following night, after pulling over the mentioned white Toyota Corolla in Moreno Valley—the arrest of Demetri Sherman, suspected to be the second perpetrator, ensued, raining down the gavel of justice as he was booked on charges of 211PC-Robbery.
Now, the LAPD's Wilshire Division Robbery detectives are extending a call to action, reaching out to any who might shed light on this crime, urging those who know to step forward—witnesses, anyone with the whisper of a detail, they plead to think not of the inertia of fear but of the velocity of virtue.
