Lewisville history buffs and architecture enthusiasts, mark your calendars—the city's Parks and Recreation Department is rolling out the welcome mat for an open house at the revamped Hedrick House. The grand tour of this mid-century gem at 1407 Creekview Drive is slated for Thursday, March 7, from noon until 8 p.m., according to a notice published by the City of Lewisville.
Visitors can pop in and out all day, but those wanting the full spiel should clock in for the 6 p.m. shindig, Mayor TJ Gilmore will be holding court with a speech, followed by the snip of a ribbon, breathing new life into the Hedrick House, the notice detailed. Built in 1962 and once the cradle of the Hedrick family, this historic abode took a journey from private haven to city-run venue in '87, and now, following a multimillion-dollar makeover, it's back to dazzle the public with its original O’Neil Ford flair.
These digs have seen some serious retrofitting, with the city council green-lighting a hefty $2.6 million back in 2020 for a bevy of updates—a touch of preservation here, some new mechanical and electrical equipment there, and let's not forget the revamped bride's room, per city council's approval, the spruced-up outdoor space and a reimagined kitchen fit for catering royalty are sure to draw a crowd. Parking and landscaping weren't left behind, getting their modern facelifts to match.
The transformation, a cornerstone of the "Green Centerpiece" initiative under the Lewisville 2025 vision, wrapped up just last year after kicking off in late 2022, and it's all part of a grander scheme to polish Lewisville's image as a verdant, sustainable city, the entire vision plan is available for the public's prying eyes at the city's official site, should curiosity get the better of you. So step right up, Lewisville residents, and be part of history in the making as the Hedrick House throws open its doors once more to keep the past alive and thriving in the heart of your community.
