Lewisville residents are getting a new look at what's in store for Southwest Parkway – and it's not just any old street makeover. The City of Lewisville Engineering Department is rolling out the "Southwest Parkway Complete Street Project," gunning for some major upgrades and they want the locals to chime in with their two cents. A public meeting is on the calendar for Thursday, March 7, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. over at Lewisville Elementary School, located at 285 Country Ridge Road, as per the City of Lewisville, Texas.
The plans are pretty ambitious with bike lanes, upgraded sidewalks and crosswalks, ADA-compliant ramps, snazzy landscaping, street furniture, and fancy pedestrian-scale lighting all on the agenda. The segment getting the facelift stretches from SH-121 Business to East Corporate Drive. Freese & Nichols, the same wizards behind the design of the East College Street Improvements, are in on the act once again with their consultancy prowess, tackling the project that's tagged at about $880,000.
The Southwest Parkway project is taking a page out of the Main & Mill Corridor project's book, carving out a path for better multimodal transportation and focusing on access to Glory Park, especially for those living in underserved communities. This isn't just about getting from A to B. There's a lens on health, safety, equity, sustainability, and revving up the local economy for the long haul. It's all tuned to match the beat of the Lewisville 2025 vision plan and the city's commitment to streets that serve everyone.
The project could run for up to 14 months. It's got the whole nine yards: staff review, public input sessions, and the rest setting sights on early 2025 to wrap up the design phase. So, if you've got something to say about the future of Southwest Parkway, March 7 is the time to step up and be heard, according to the City of Lewisville, Texas.
