Little Elm, a burgeoning suburb northwest of Frisco, is set to start construction on a new Public Safety Annex in April, which will house Fire Station #4 along with a police substation. At a cost of about $15 million, plans for the facility indicate it will span an area of 15,783 square feet, aiming to enhance response times for emergency services in the rapidly expanding northern areas of the town.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has the project registered under the number TABS2024009846, with the construction anticipated to wrap up by June 2025. This annex will bolster police and fire services, especially along the growing Hwy. 380 corridor. Erin Mudie, a spokesperson for the city, told The Dallas Express, "The Public Safety Annex will help the residents of Little Elm by increasing the staffing levels and reducing response times of our first responders — police, fire, and EMS — to northern and western portions of our town limits."

Located at 107 Ryan Spiritas Parkway, the annex is part of a larger 545-acre community under development, Spiritas Ranch, which is set to include over 2,200 homes, a Denton ISD school, and various neighborhood amenities. The city cemented a deal with the developer to dedicate three acres for the project, with some costs to be offset by fees on lots within the development.

Funding for the annex comes from a mix of sources. A portion is covered by fees assessed on new developments in the area, while the rest is to be met through city-issued debt and fund balance. With Little Elm's fiscal year 2024 budget totaling just above $145 million, the project represents a significant investment in public safety infrastructure. The project details, as listed in the public filing, emphasize the new construction will include a two-bay fire station and a police substation, along with necessary site improvements.

Firms involved in the project include BRW Architects, Inc. as the design firm, and MARCELA ABADI,RHOADS as the registered accessibility specialist (RAS). While the design phase progresses, the town is geared up to see this new annex becoming an integral part of its safety services system.
