
Los Angeles residents are bracing for a deluge as the National Weather Service has issued warnings of serious rainfall and potential flooding through Wednesday, Feb. 21. LA Unified is not taking any chances as they have announced that all schools will remain open but with precautionary measures firmly in place to combat the effects of the storm on school communities, according to a statement by Los Angeles Unified.

Maintenance crews have been deployed ahead of the storm to carry out preventative work at the campuses keep debris at bay and mitigate flooding risks, they are set to arrive early on Tuesday to assess and address any overnight damage. Parents and staff are urged to exercise extra vigilance on the roads – take more time to commute, be cautious, and consider alternative routes, in case they encounter downed power lines or flooded thoroughfares, per Los Angeles Unified’s storm update.
In the event of treacherous driving conditions, LAUSD advises motorists to keep headlights on during the rainy weather, to increase their following distance, and to slow down as a safeguard against the heightened risk of accidents. These tips are part of the district's efforts to ensure the safety of students and faculty as the storm impacts travel.
