In a daring mid-river rescue, Los Angeles Fire Department crews saved a man and his loyal dog from the grips of the Pacoima Wash in Sylmar. The man, witnessed leaping into the currents to save his pet, was rescued by firefighter heroes who maneuvered through treacherous waters, according to an LAFD alert.

Responding to the emergency on February 5th, firefighters sprung into action after receiving reports that the individual had jumped after his dog into the flowing water. Eventually, further down the waterway, the crew located the dog that had clawed its way to safety. The man, fighting the strong currents, remained conscious as the LADF Air Ops delicately lowered a rescuer who secured and hoisted him to the safety of the hovering aircraft.

LAFD Captain Cody Weireter, promptly arriving for media inquiries, coordinated the swift operation from several strategic points along the river. The rescued man received prompt medical attention as he was transported by air directly to a local hospital. In a separate but compassionate gesture, the dog, suffering from minor injuries following its inadvertent adventure, was taken into the care of a nearby shelter.

"Firefighters responded to bystander reports that a man jumped in the flowing water in pursuit of his dog," the official statement reported, "crews responded to several bridges and access points down river." Luckily for this duo, there were no other victims involved in the incident.
