A Macomb County man was shot dead on Detroit's west side after confronting car thieves outside a liquor store, a brutal act of violence that extinguished the life of a family man and hardworking father, authorities said.
The shooting occurred late Saturday night when 43-year-old Thair Dado tried to thwart the theft of his vehicle outside the All Stars Beverage liquor store, located in the 10600 block of West Chicago, the Detroit News reports. Dado, an employee of the store, spotted his car being driven off. As he took action, the situation escalated tragically, "And then all of a sudden, the passenger seat just opens, and then they start shooting him," his nephew Manar Dano told FOX 2 Detroit.
Police, arriving on the scene around 11:30 p.m. following a report of a shooting, found Dado dead upon their arrival, and despite their efforts, the suspects remain at large. The victim tried to prevent multiple suspects from breaking into and stealing his vehicle but was fatally injured in the process, according to Detroit police. Details are currently sparse, with investigators withholding additional information at this juncture, as reported by The Detroit News.
The community has rallied around Dado's family, starting a GoFundMe page to raise financial support in the aftermath of the tragedy. "Loved ones have created a GoFundMe for the family of THAIR DADO, a man killed Saturday night while working at a liquor store in Detroit," stated the GoFundMe page. The initial goal of $100,000 was set to support his wife, Zina Francis, and their 16-year-old son, Steven, in recognition of Dado as the sole breadwinner for his family. As of Monday afternoon, the campaign had amassed over $40,000, according to the Macomb Daily.
Thair Dado is remembered as a devoted and hardworking man, a loving husband, and an "amazing" father, as family members conveyed their loss. The vehicle, described as a high-mileage 2015 or 2014 Hyundai, proved to be a fatal object of desire for the thieves that night, its value incomparable to the life it claimed, Manar expressed in a FOX 2 Detroit interview. Detailing the impact of Dado's death on the family, Manar lamented, "He was the man of the house, paying the mortgage and everything else. I don’t know what they’re going to do now." The loss of Thair Dado reverberates not just through his immediate family but throughout the community that mourns a good man's untimely and senseless killing.
