The park, known for its spectacular Lake Michigan shoreline and sprawling sand dunes, is due for a 10-year management makeover, and the state wants to hear from you. According to a report by The Detroit News, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is drumming up feedback through an online survey that's open until March 3.
The survey is not just another questionnaire - it's a critical part of shaping the future of recreational and educational experiences in the park. The input from this survey will inform a long-range plan, replacing the one done back in 2012, with shiny new goals for the next decade. And it's not just about maintaining the trails and keeping the dunes in tip-top shape; this park boasts an ORV area that's the unique motorized sand dune riding spot east of the Mississippi, as highlighted by the Department of Natural Resources.
But it's not all about the adrenaline-pumping dune buggies. From a modern campground to the historic Little Sable Point Lighthouse – a beacon of history which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places – Silver Lake State Park also caters to the more tranquil aspects of outdoor life.
