Monroe County KOA Plans Extensive Upgrades Including Pools and New Cabins in PetersburgSource: Google Street View

The Monroe County KOA is set to undergo a significant revamp, with the campground introducing a series of new attractions and amenities that include two swimming pools, a splash pad, and several other recreational options, per reports released today.

Multiple sources disclosed that these additions are part of a grand plan to upgrade the Petersburg campsite over the next several years. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the campground's slew of plans comprises not only water features but also six new cabins, a collection of pool cabanas, a new mini-golf course, and an expanded concession area. Additional RV and tent sites are also on the agenda, as the location seeks to enhance its capacity and appeal.

The drive for these developments, as indicated by the campground, is to enhance the quality and variety of the visitor experience. The improvements, coming in the wake of the closure and draining of the campground's swimming lake last summer after multiple drownings, are still in the embryonic planning stages. WTOL mentions that the upgrades are scheduled to start this fall, however, careful staging will ensure camper seasons, such as the popular Halloween weekends, remain uninterrupted.

Further insight into the campsite's vision was shared via a masterplan concept drawing, published in the campground's social media post, evidenced by the WTOL coverage. In addition to the amenities previously mentioned, the campgrounds will also revamp its entrance with a new staging/check-in area, providing added convenience and an improved first impression for visitors. No end date for the project has been solidified, with only the knowledge that these augmentations will span several years.

Yet despite the coming construction, the Monroe County/Toledo North KOA Holiday aims to keep summer 2024 an engaging time for guests, with a planned lineup of activities. "This summer, the campground will host more fun planned activities than ever before," according to a statement released in a press release detailed by Woodall's Campground Management. Guests can anticipate themed weekends, starting from April 4-8 with an eclipse viewing event, and continuing through to October festooned with seven Halloween-themed weekends. The initiative is set to maintain the campground's atmosphere of family fun and festivity ahead of the anticipated enhancements.
