Five Moorpark locals are slapped with cuffs after running a slick operation of identity theft across the United States. Quan Quoc Vo, Quoc Thai Vo, Thi Diem Chau, Dinh Thi Chau, and Xuan Phong Vo, whose ages range from 28 to 53, allegedly facilitated fraudulent package deliveries to their apartment, landing them in hot water with the law.

The scam was busted open when the Moorpark Investigations Unit picked up on an unusual amount of deliveries making their way to a seemingly nondescript apartment on Spring Road. According to a news release by Moorpark Police, not a single package was intended for any resident of the apartment, which raised the first red flag.

Upon further probing, detectives uncovered that a whopping 1,600 victims had their online accounts hijacked and abused for unauthorized purchases. "Investigators were able to identify and contact several victims to confirm they had not placed the orders that were delivered to the apartment in Moorpark," as stated in the news release.

After serving a search warrant at the suspects' den, around 200 packages from an online business were found, all misaddressed to people unlinked to the apartment. When the authorities reached out, these individuals confirmed that the orders were not their doing.

All five suspects have now been charged with seven counts of identity theft and conspiracy, according to the report from Detective Kathleen Webb, and took a ride down to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura. In a surprising turn, they were released on their own recognizance and await their next hearing on February 6th at the Ventura Superior Court.

Investigator Amy Garcia, reachable at 805-532-2650, is the go-to contact for any follow-ups, as the Moorpark Investigations Unit and Ventura County Crime Stoppers team up to encourage those with information to step forward, with the sweetener of a potential $1,000 reward for tips that lead to a conviction.
