Decades-old cold case of missing Kittery man, Reeves K. Johnson, receives new life as local Maine police and a true crime podcaster uncover fresh leads. Johnson, who vanished after leaving his welding job in 1983, became the subject of renewed investigation when Kittery Detective Brian Cummer teamed up with Kristen Seavey, host of the "Murder, She Told" podcast. Together, they've brought to light a letter referring to a former girlfriend of Johnson's and his previously unknown employment at a local eatery.

A key piece of the puzzle came when the letter penned by Johnson in 1978 emerged, mentioning a woman named Cheryl who was believed to be dating him at the time. As revealed in a press release from the Kittery police department and reported by NBC Boston, Cheryl might have had a young child and resided in Maine or New Hampshire. Seavey's work shed light on another angle, finding that Johnson had worked as a dishwasher at the Borderline Restaurant in Kittery back in 1981, according to News Center Maine.

The police and Seavey hope these revelations will jog memories and encourage witnesses to come forward. Detectives believe that individuals associated with the Borderline Restaurant, located near the Kittery Trading Post and closed since 1982, might hold crucial knowledge about Johnson's life prior to his disappearance. "No piece of information is too small," said Detective Cummer in his plea for public assistance, as per NBC Boston.

Cummer noted the gravity of the situation by stating, "Every clue is one step closer to figuring out what happened to Reeves. There are people who care about him who have had to live without knowing for the past 40 years," emphasizing the significant emotional toll this unsolved case has on Johnson's family. The Kittery Police Department has offered a $6,000 reward for information that could further the investigation. Interested individuals are urged to reach out to the Kittery Police Department or email Detective Cummer directly at [email protected] with any relevant leads.
