On June 30, Vallejo police successfully extricated a domestic violence victim and her child from a perilous situation. Responding to an emergency call, the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) was informed that a woman was being forcibly held inside her Maher Court residence by armed suspect Cordell Shaw. According to the VPD statement posted on Facebook, Shaw had kidnapped the victim and had brandished a firearm, using both threats and physical violence to prevent her escape.

Upon receiving confirmation from the victim of the dire circumstances, VPD’s Patrol Division sprang into action with tactical precision. Their "surround and call-out" strategy proved effective as Shaw capitulated, surrendered without further ado, and was promptly arrested. It was a relief, certainly, for the victim and her child as they were safely rescued from the residence. During the subsequent search, two loaded guns were discovered, with one reported as stolen property originating from Stanislaus County, the police reported.

The arrest of Shaw brought multiple charges crashing down on him, in a statement obtained by VPD, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, domestic violence, and possession of a stolen firearm. In stark contrast to the violence that preceded it, Shaw’s apprehension occurred peacefully, without further incident or injury to any involved parties.

The aftermath of such events often leaves a community shaken, the Vallejo community included. Nevertheless, the Vallejo Police Department’s commitment to tackling domestic violence head on remains unshakable, ensuring the safety of victims as a priority. For additional inquiries, Sgt. Rashad Hollis, Public Information Officer for the VPD, can be contacted by interested media parties.
