A standoff over the weekend in Portland, Maine, concluded with the arrest of Daryl Walsh, a 39-year-old man who was allegedly threatening his former partner and attempting to build a bomb. Walsh was apprehended by police on Saturday evening following the execution of a high-risk search warrant at his apartment located on Runnels Street, as reported by NBC Boston.

According to local authorities, the tip-off that kicked off the day's events indicated Walsh had made threats against an ex and a member of the judiciary. The tip also warned that Walsh might be armed and in midst of constructing an explosive device. Crisis negotiators successfully coaxed Walsh out of his apartment, enabling his arrest on charges including terrorizing, criminal use of explosives, and violation of a protective order, as noted by News Center Maine.

The operation involved multiple units such as the Special Reaction Team, Crisis Negotiators, and Hazardous Device Unit from the Portland Police Department, with additional support from the Maine State Police’s tactical team. During the search, evidence was uncovered which seemed to confirm the threat level communicated to law enforcement.

"We are thankful that a concerned citizen came forward and alerted us to this threat," the Portland Police Department indicated in a statement, according to News Center Maine. While Walsh is now being held at the Cumberland County Jail pending his arraignment, no further details on the case have been made public. The department, however, encourages anyone with relevant information to step forward and assist by reaching out to the Portland police at 207-874-8575 or by texting "PPDME" and their message to 847411.
