City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission meetings are on the move. The Senator Florence Shapiro Council Chambers are slated for renovation, starting in April 2024, pushing these local government gatherings to a new temporary home, according to the City of Plano.
For those who keep tabs on city planning or feel the civic duty to attend, mark your calendars; as of April 1, Planning & Zoning Commission meetings will set up shop in the Davis Library, and come April 8, Plano City Council meetings will follow suit. Despite the relocation hiccup, it's business as usual for these municipal bodies, though other affected meetings will direct attendees to their new locations via posted agendas.
Disruptions in government venues often give rise to concerns about public access and participation, but planners have made sure to announce these changes well in advance; the hope is to maintain transparency and full community involvement in the political process, not an easy feat when the familiar pillars of local architecture fall silent for upgrades and the bureaucratic heartbeat is relocated to the communal space of Davis Library.
